I know, I know... I'm normally so not opposed to people getting on bandwagons and laying claim to the most recent movie characters, but that's probably because none of them have hit home so deeply. I've been watching Star Trek all my life. My dad made me and my mom watch it every night, both the original series and The Next Generation, and later Voyager. He would tape new episodes of these shows and M*A*S*H and we would watch them when there was nothing else on.

So it's just so weird for me to see Spock suddenly making out with every OC out there (and Zoe Saldana, but that doesn't bother me as much). There's something about making him into an object of cheap sentimentality that I just can't reconcile in my head with the Spock I know. I'm not passing judgement, and I know that in, like, two months the same people will be back on Sora or Heath Ledger or John Connor or something else, but it has made me so uncomfortable that I had to say something.

Furthermore, this upbringing is probably why I became a geek in the first place. It's like... at the root of my very identity. It doesn't get much more personal than that.
