I just got spontaneously excited. My parents are dropping off my sister tonight and picking up my cats, and tomorrow we're heading to the airport. Finally, finally!

I found out about this at Three Panel Soul today. I think it sets a bad precedent. I'm the first to say that I think loli hentai is gross and I would never draw or possess it myself, but I don't think it's on the same level as child porn. As a onetime lover of anime and managa myself (I can hardly call myself that now, since I no longer watch anything new) I know how hard it is to tell the difference in some stories. The tendency to draw childlike characters that are supposed to be thought of as adults, or to consider certain kids to be mature enough (Sailor Moon was 14 when she started making out with her college age boyfriend, and 15 when she started talking about marriage and sex) really blurs the line.

I don't know, maybe this guy had some hardcore loli stuff, that was all about assaulting children, but knowing the medium as I do, I find that hard to believe. It sounds an awful lot like society persecuting a geek because they aren't as familiar with the stuff to me. It reminds me of cases in the past where people were found with foreign or antique pornography or sexually explicit art and tried under similar laws... but that hasn't happened for like forty years. I don't know, though, maybe I'm jaded. I just wish I knew more.

I do know that dozens of artists at Hentai Foundry need to pay attention to this case. If a man can be charged for owning lolicon manga from Japan, just imagine what will happen to someone in the states who actually draws the stuff.
